Rules for getting things done

Here are the rules I've written down over time that guide me in life.

  1. To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan, and not quite enough time

  2. Don't be perfect, just get it done and keep moving

  3. Constraint is the biggest benefit in creativity

  4. Always ask when you don't understand. Better to look like a fool now than later.

  5. The best ideas are often the ones that not everyone likes

  6. Play is important

  7. “Why am I here?” It’s a useful question to ask often.

  8. Tell people what you're doing and what you plan to be doing

  9. When you have the opportunity to learn hands-on, take it

  10. To thrive without outside credibility means to be confident and show what you can do

  11. Surround yourself with people you like and want to be

  12. A simple hello could lead to a million things

Ideas are like children. You don't just need to give birth to them; you also need to raise them, teach them, challenge them, and show them the world. Giving birth to an idea is a necessary condition and sets the boundaries for so much of what it can achieve. But if you're unable to raise it to become a world champion, it isn't worth anything. -lobochrome
