Andrew Sider Chen.

I'm a product designer with a passion for cross-functional collaboration. Drawing from experience at New Relic, Airbnb, and Curology, I help teams approach projects with clarity, ship designs with confidence, and build a reputation for strong design.

Here's how I got into design

Growing up, I was a huuuge nerd!

In middle school, I found old computer parts and created low cost internet portals using Linux. As a fully open source operating system, I learned that I could tweak Linux to be anything I wanted, and I got hooked on designing the most ideal UIs for my use cases. I quickly picked up web development, and in high school I ran websites generating revenue off Google Adsense.

I spent my first 4 years after high school working part-time as a designer and web developer (including contracting at Airbnb and Volkswagen), and part-time trying out different lines of work including in a restaurant, a bike shop business, and a car rental business.

I returned to school at 22 for my Bachelor's. During my time in school, I designed software as an intern at Curology and Alation.

After graduating with a Bachelor's in Design in 2020, I spent two years at New Relic, where I was a senior product designer on large cross-functional projects such as delivering a new user type, adjusting pricing models, and migrating millions of users to a new access model. Most recently, I've been helping startups Anomaly and Ampersand from the perspective of a one-man studio, Sider Studios, helping them build confidence via quick prototyping, testing, and learning.

My deep understanding of technology and my broad set of experiences allows me to go beyond the typical job description of a product designer to uncover new markets, inspire engineering teams, and lead organizations toward healthier and more effective process.
